Introduction
Babao Canal was built in the 19th year of the reign of Qing Emperor Kangxi (1680) and was built by local people. In 1719, soil ditches were completed with round and angular basket traps used to intercept the water of the Zhuoshui River and irrigate the 13 townships and villages of Changhua County. The existing Babao No. 1 and No. 2 Canals have a total irrigation area of about 21,400 hectares. The main canal is 96 kilometers long, the lateral canal 209 kilometers long and the sub-lateral canal 332 kilometers long, with a total length of 637 kilometers. The original soil canal is 244 years old (1719-1963) and is enduring, nourishing the mulberry fields and benefiting villages.
