Geography

The geographic location is from south of the Datun Mountains to the Danshui River, the Keelung River and Wuzhi Mountain; east to the Keelung River. The area is located in between the northern tip to the northeastern end of Taipei Basin, which is sloped descending from north to south and west to east. The northern mountains are volcanic terrain, while the western mountains tend to be aligned in a Sinian direction. The flat land is an alluvial plain formed after the sedimentation of the Great Taipei Lake. The terrain is flat and the drop in altitude is extremely large at over 800 meters, which is to say there are great changes in topography. The rivers all converge at the center of the basin, cutting through the mountains and creating numerous valleys. Based on the limits imposed by the natural environment, the irrigation system developed adopted a fan-shaped canal network with scattered water sources but abundant water. On July 8, 1955, Taipei City was redesignated a municipality under the Executive Yuan and the office was ordered to change its designation. On July 1, 1968, it was renamed "Taipei Chising Irrigation Association" and on October 1, 2020, renamed " Chising Management Office."

Irrigation system

As the management office developed it once had as many as 72 irrigation canals, mainly diverting water from Keelung River, Shuang River, Guizikeng River and Shuimokeng River, ranging in length from 200 meters to 7,000 meters. The irrigation channels are small, short and scattered back and forth, like a group of coiled dragons and there are 10 canals distributed between 300-700 meters above sea level in the Qixing Mountains; however, following the development of metropolitan Taipei, only 33 irrigation channels are now left.
