Kaohsiung Management Office, Irrigation Agency Completes Construction of Wulipu Pumping Station to Meet Local Demand

Date :2022-02-22 Issued by Kaohsiung

At Yuemei Workstation, Kaohsiung Management Office, Irrigation Agency, in charge of Wulipu Canal in Jiaxian district irrigation area, the water intake facilities were damaged by Typhoon Morakot typhoon. In addition, the original Jiaopu River water intake point had difficulty accessing water due to changes in the river bed and water volume was unstable. After several visits and an investigation, the office decided to install a new pumping station in Qishan River to supplement the water required for irrigation.

The construction of Wulipu Canal Pumping Station to provide supplementary irrigation faced various administrative challenges such as approval for the use of river public land, acquisition of a temporary water use license, a soil and water conservation proposal for hillside land as well as expected high operating costs. After many attempts, Kaohsiung Management Office Director Lu Wenhao instructed the case handling unit to make necessary preparations for construction to meet local demand.

The new construction was started on 2020/12/10, completed on 2021/11/1 and became operational after an acceptance inspection conducted on 2021/12/6. The station is equipped with 2 water pumps, each pumping 1.3 cubic meters per minute benefiting an irrigation area of 46.47 hectares. The pumping station has been in operation for nearly two months, providing local farmers with a much more stable irrigation water supply.
