Joint Taiwan-Japan Remembrance of Hatta Yoichi’s Contributions to the Chianan Irrigation System
On May 8th, 2024, the Irrigation Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture held a memorial ceremony at the Wushantou Reservoir to mark the 82nd anniversary of engineer Hatta Yoichi's passing. Nearly 400 guests attended the event to honor Hatta Yoichi's spirit and contributions. A century ago, he boldly undertook the construction of the Wushantou Reservoir and the Chianan Irrigation System, transforming the once barren plains of Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan into a vast and fertile granary. His work significantly improved the livelihoods of countless farmers and spurred the development of agriculture, commerce, industry, and even the technology sector over the past hundred years.
The Irrigation Agency will continue to enhance the resilience of agricultural water resources to ensure a steady water supply for bountiful harvests and sustainable agriculture.
