Irrigation Agency Celebrates Second Consecutive Gold Award at 2024 PwC Sustainability Impact Awards

Date :2024-10-24 Issued by Irrigation Construction Division

The Irrigation Agency’s project, "Canal Revitalization, A Century-Old Legacy – A New Chapter of Sustainable and Inclusive Development for Yayou Canal," has won the prestigious Gold Award in the “Social Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Category” at the 8th PwC Sustainability Impact Awards in 2024. On October 24, Deputy Minister Kao Shien-Quey of the National Development Council personally presented the award, with Director-General Tsai Sheng-Fu representing the Irrigation Agency at the ceremony. This marks the agency's second consecutive top honor, following their 2023 Gold Award for "Retaining Water to Irrigate the Earth, the Taste of Happiness from Dapingding."

Located in Daliao Village, Dahu Township, Miaoli County, Yayou Canal originally provided irrigation services outside the main irrigation district, covering approximately 40 hectares and benefiting about 30 farming households, primarily cultivating strawberries. Through the Irrigation Agency's expanded irrigation service initiative, the irrigation system underwent comprehensive inspection and repair, along with enhancements to the canal patrol system. These efforts aim to bolster water resource resilience, improve irrigation efficiency, and increase farmers' incomes. The project adopted location-based, low-carbon construction methods that harmonize with the natural landscape, advancing eight United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Centered on the theme of "Canal Revitalization," this project aspires to forge a new chapter of sustainable and inclusive development for the Yayou Canal.

The Irrigation Agency remains committed to expanding irrigation services, particularly in areas with limited agricultural water resources. Guided by its vision of "Retaining Water, Irrigating the Land," the agency will continue developing customized irrigation expansion projects to serve more farmers, fostering diversity, shared prosperity, and environmental sustainability.
