Linnei Diversion Works of Zhuo Main Canal Wins Excellence Award at Public Construction Golden Quality Awards – Director-General Tsai Sheng-Fu Encourages Continued Success for the Next Century

Date :2024-12-11 Issued by Irrigation Management Division

The Linnei Diversion Works of the Zhuo Main Canal, managed by the Yunlin Management Office under the Irrigation Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, has been honored with the Excellence Award in the Maintenance and Management category at the 24th Public Construction Golden Quality Awards. To recognize the hard work of frontline staff, Director-General Tsai Sheng-Fu of the Irrigation Agency visited the Linnei Branch of the Yunlin Management Office on December 11 to personally express his gratitude and encouragement to all colleagues.

The Irrigation Agency highlighted that the Zhuo Main Canal, which began operations in 1924, celebrates its centennial this year. As the largest irrigation system in the Yunlin region, it supplies water to 34,500 hectares of farmland. The Linnei Diversion Works, a key hub of the main canal, is renowned for its distinctive octagonal diversion structure—commonly referred to as the "Bagua Pool." As the first facility of its kind in Asia and a pioneering achievement in Taiwan, it features two water inlets: the No. 2 intake from the Zhuoshui River and the South Bank Connection Channel. Water is distributed through five outlets, supplying the Zhuo Main Canal, Zhuoshui Power Plant, Mayuan Lateral Canal, Wutu Lateral Canal, and other critical water demands.

To address the Zhuoshui River's high sediment content, the Yunlin Management Office implemented a dual-tank sedimentation basin between the No. 2 intake and the Linnei Diversion Works. This design allows one tank to be dredged while the other maintains water flow, ensuring a stable water supply for agricultural and other purposes. The facility efficiently removes 26,000 cubic meters of sediment annually within just six days through carefully planned transport routes, frequent truck dispatches, designated temporary storage sites, and effective traffic control and dust suppression measures.

The Irrigation Agency emphasized that the Yunlin Management Office ensures the Linnei Diversion Works' stable operation through systematic maintenance and management. Regular inspections are conducted on critical infrastructure, including the diversion works, sedimentation basins, South Bank Connection Channel, and No. 2 intake. Funds are strategically allocated for infrastructure life extension, facility operations, emergency repairs, environmental conservation, and technological innovation. These efforts reflect the Irrigation Agency's commitment to creating safe agricultural production environments, fostering ecological sustainability, and promoting irrigation-related environmental education.

During his visit, Director-General Tsai Sheng-Fu personally commended the team for their exemplary work, encouraging them to continue ensuring the Linnei Diversion Works' stable operation for the next century and beyond.
