Ministry of Agriculture Presents Ten Years of Smart Agricultural Achievements and Collaborates Across Sectors to Create a New Future for Smart Agriculture 2.0

On June 16, the Ministry of Agriculture held the “Ten Years of Building Foundations, Co-Creating Progress” Smart Agricultural Achievement Presentation. The event showcased the application of smart agriculture technologies in rice cultivation, facility agriculture[u1.1], mushroom cultivation, floriculture, aquaculture, poultry farming, and livestock farming, exemplifying the tangible benefits of introducing digital technologies to improve production efficiency, optimize operational management, and strengthen industry competitiveness. At the presentation, Minister of Agriculture Chen Junne-jih recognized the achievements made over the past decade in promoting smart agriculture. He thanked members from the industry, government, academic, and research sectors for their contributions, which have driven the central government, local governments, and the private sector to jointly promote agricultural digital transformation and accelerate industrial upgrading. He also announced that Smart Agriculture 2.0 would be launched in 2027, with “resilience, empowerment, and inclusiveness” as its three core objectives. These efforts will promote the standardization of operational sites and equipment modules, lower the barriers to adoption for farmers, and encourage all sectors to continue participating and working together toward a new era of AI-powered Smart Agriculture 2.0.

National Smart Agricultural Equipment Adoption Rate Reaches 25%; Presentation Reveals the Technological Strength of Taiwan’s Agricultural Sector

In response to challenges such as climate change, labor shortages, and supply chain restructuring, the Ministry of Agriculture has promoted smart agriculture since 2017 through policy initiatives involving smart agriculture, the Internet of Things, digital transformation, and chip innovation. Over the past ten years, these efforts have resulted in more than 200 technology transfers, the establishment of 10 startup companies, the development of over 400 smart agricultural sites and 4,000 smart application locations, NT$2.9 billion in investment, and NT$2.27 billion in additional output value. According to estimates from a 2025 survey, the national adoption rate of smart agricultural equipment has reached 25%, an increase of 3% from 2023, confirming significant promotional results. The presentation specifically introduced 23 achievements in smart agricultural ecosystem building, technology commercialization, and industry services, including a “Smart Environmental Control System for Mushroom Cultivation,” an “Export Flower Shipment Management Service Platform,” a “Smart Irrigation System for Protected Facility Vegetable Cultivation,” “Precision Agriculture-related Spraying Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles,” a “Smart Precision Feeding System for Aquaculture,” and a “Voiceprint Detection Device for Respiratory Diseases in Chickens,” comprehensively highlighting the capabilities of Taiwan’s smart agriculture industry in related applications.

Launching a New Milestone for Smart Agriculture 2.0! AI Drives Smart Agricultural Technology Upgrades and Expands Industrial Applications

The Ministry of Agriculture explained that, in addition to showcasing the achievements of smart agriculture promotion over the past ten years, the event also included a “Smart Agriculture 2.0 Launch Ceremony.” Research institutions under the Ministry of Agriculture, corporations, industry representatives, academic and research institutions, and agricultural authorities of city and county governments jointly exhibited the solid foundation and innovative energy supporting Taiwan’s smart agriculture as it enters its next stage of development. Smart Agriculture 2.0 will focus on “empowerment” to transform labor structure, “resilience” to enhance the ability to withstand climate risks, and “inclusiveness” to lower the barriers to technology adoption. Through measures such as co-developing standards, sharing modules, and co-creating industry solutions, Smart Agriculture 2.0 will implement its development blueprint. It will also promote the wider adoption of applications through a support mechanism in which smart agricultural technology service providers and experts accompany and assist users throughout the process, further helping businesses expand into international markets. 

Minister Chen expressed the hope that, in addition to the use of Smart Agriculture 2.0 to continue promoting the standardization of existing system components and technology modules and accelerating the dissemination and application of technologies, that government agencies would also present the benefits of smart agriculture applications in clear, easy-to-understand ways. This would help agricultural producers understand the benefits of adopting smart agriculture in areas such as production, marketing, and operational management. At the same time, stronger links between agricultural operators and information service providers would encourage businesses to develop systems and services that better meet industry needs, jointly advancing smart agriculture-related development. 

Accelerating Digital Transformation! Ministry of Agriculture to Launch More Than 20 Smart Agriculture Dissemination Activities in 2026

In recent years, the Ministry of Agriculture has actively promoted “smart agriculture ecosystems.” To accelerate the implementation of technologies and expand industrial applications, it will also organize more than 20 smart agriculture ecosystem dissemination activities in the second half of this year, offering smart services for the agricultural, fishery, and livestock industries. In the area of “crop cultivation,” mushroom environmental control, 3D water curtain systems, smart irrigation for vegetables, and remote monitoring of hydroponic nutrient solutions will be introduced to build facility ecosystems to improve production efficiency. In the area of “business development,” production management consulting, export shipment platforms, and one-stop services for overseas plant variety rights applications will be provided to strengthen international competitiveness. In the area of “aquaculture/livestock farming management,” smart pig farming, waterfowl house renovation, and the exporting of resilient animal farming facilities will be promoted, using digital management to help businesses reduce risks, improve efficiency, and build a sustainable, modern agricultural sector. Through this series of dissemination activities in the second half of the year, the Ministry of Agriculture hopes to assist farmers, farmers’ groups, and businesses in building mutually beneficial ecosystem networks, implementing precision production as well as circular and sustainable operations, and comprehensively driving Taiwan’s agriculture toward a new era of smart upgrading. The ministry also welcomes all sectors to participate in related endeavors.
