Houzhuangzi Pond

Basic information

Introduction
Houzhuangzi Pond was built in the 22nd year of the reign of Qing Emperor Daoguang (1842) and was irrigated by water from Bajiao River. In 1956, a typhoon destroyed the grass pond weir. At that time, with the support of the Joint Commission on Rural Reconstruction and US-aided technology, Douliu Irrigation Association rebuilt the pond as a six-gate water gate and weir to irrigate 362 hectares of farmland, making it an important irrigation water source in the Douliu area.
After more than 60 years, the existing check gate facilities were old and the columns obstructed water flow, which blocked the drainage of Longtan community on the upper reaches of Bajiao River. A petition was filed by local people and construction completed in 2017. It is a modern head work construction providing irrigation and flood control.
