Introduction
Caogong Canal was first built during the reign of the Qing Daoguang Emperor (1820-1850). It was excavated by Cao Jin, the magistrate of Fengshan at that time in order to relieve a drought. After Caogong old canal was built, it was called "Five Village Canal" because the irrigated area covered Xiaozhushang village, Xiaozhuxia village, Dazhu village, Fengshanshang village and Fengshanxia village. The inspector-general and commander-in-chief Xiong Yiben named it "Caogong Canal" and engraved a monument to commemorate it.
