Introduction
Early settlers dug tunnels to manually excavate the bottom of the canal so the slope is less smooth, the height of the tunnel varies (some sections are only about 60cm high) and some sections have collapsed or silted up due to years of water delivery and geological weathering. At present, as it is difficult to maintain the end section of Yuemei Canal because it has to cross Taiwan Provincial Highway No. 3. The pipelines of the various authorities are located under the road, but the surface part is the main road which makes it impossible open up and improve. In 2017, the office decided to use a shield pipeline to improve the canal and solve such difficulties.
