A Few Words from the Director

On October 1, 2020, the Irrigation Agency was officially established to serve the public. It was set up to actively address the problems and difficulties of irrigation water management in agricultural development, including the risks of drought and flooding caused by extreme climate change, irrigation facility maintenance, the protection of irrigation water quality and other long-term issues. In the future, based on the public powers conferred by the Irrigation Act and various sub-acts, we will actively maintain water use and protect irrigation water quality, so as to ensure irrigation water is provided in sufficient quantity.

In addition, the Irrigation Agency will also continue to offer the efficient services previously offered by irrigation associations. We reorganized the associations into management offices under the jurisdiction of the Irrigation Agency, and officially upgraded them to public organizations. In addition, the original irrigation areas of the associations will be operational districts, to ensure the same quality of local service is provided, as we continue to build, maintain and improve farmland irrigation facilities. Based on the 680,000 hectares of agricultural land inspected and determined suitable for grain production in the country , agricultural land that remains outside the operational districts will be gradually provided with irrigation services outside irrigation areas according to local conditions, depending on factors such as current water source conditions, planting crops, facility land acquisition, and farmers' wishes. In accordance with the policy of expanding irrigation services, more farmers will be able to enjoy irrigation benefits provided by the government.

The establishment of the Irrigation Agency will improve the agricultural production environment in rural areas and attract young farmers to return to their hometowns by combining farmland irrigation infrastructure construction with agricultural grain policies, thereby improving the rural population structure. This will also form a positive cycle and facilitate synergy by combining farmland irrigation operations with agricultural policies, representing a new page in the development of farmland irrigation operations and national agricultural policy.
